New Eco-Friendly Knife (& Fork & Spoon) in the Block?
by Rick on February 8, 2010
I just came across this interesting new product: disposable cutlery made from 100% farm-raised birch trees.
Made by Birchware, these eco-friendly utensils are intended to replace those oh-so-handy plastic jobbies that do nothing but harm for the environment. Birchware claims these birchwood beauties are even better than the compostable bio-plastics, because they don’t require a commercial composting facility to break down properly. Their claim: “it will completely biodegrade in any type compostier in under 60 days.”
I’ll try to get my hands on some and give them the SustainAbler once-over for a more thorough review. My daughter’s birthday party is coming up - can’t think of a better time to test them.
Check them out at http://www.birchware.com.

I bought some to try and was grossed out by finding a big greasy fingerprint on the knife when I opened the cutlery kit. Yuck! Made in China…what can you expect?
